RBB
Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB, proper spelling of the abbreviation: rbb) is the state broadcaster for the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. The broadcaster is based in Berlin and Potsdam.
The rbb was created in 2003 through the merger of Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) and Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB). It is a member of ARD and has the legal form of a non-profit institution under public law with legal capacity. rbb is responsible for ensuring that both states party to the treaty receive equal coverage, taking into account regional programming needs.
Every year, rbb hosts the Prix Europa, an international media festival for television, radio and online productions.
rbb began broadcasting on May 1, 2003. Its role as a state broadcaster is defined in a state treaty between the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. It took over the programs of the former SFB and ORB.
In 2020, the broadcaster employed around 3,500 staff, around 1,500 of whom were employee-like freelancers. Total personnel expenses amounted to 178.077 million euros in 2014.
rbb is largely financed by income from the broadcasting license fee, which it receives both directly and via returns from the share of the state media authorities.
Since the end of the 1990s, rbb has expanded its presence on the Internet. All rbb radio stations are currently available as live streams on the Internet. As part of the ARD media library, rbb's media library at www.rbb24.de offers a portal for freely accessible videos, live streams, news and multimedia content. (Source: Wikipedia)
