ProSieben

ProSieben (often stylized as Pro7) is a German private broadcaster. It broadcasts a full 24-hour television program every day, which has become known primarily for its feature films and television series. Together with the stations Sat.1, Kabel Eins and sixx and other subsidiaries, ProSieben forms ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE.

ProSieben Television GmbH was founded on October 13, 1988 as the successor to Eureka TV. The founding shareholders were Gerhard Ackermans (51 percent) and Thomas Kirch (49 percent). It can be assumed that Thomas Kirch was acting as a front man for his father Leo Kirch, who at the time held shares in competitor Sat.1, for antitrust reasons. Thomas Kirch soon took over the station completely.

On January 1, 1989, ProSieben (then still “Pro 7”) began broadcasting from Munich with nine hours of programming daily and, according to its own figures, had a reach of 2.44 million viewers. ProSieben has been broadcasting its program around the clock since October 1, 1990.

In 1992, together with Deutsche Bundespost TELEKOM, it founded the special-interest channel Der Kabelkanal.
In 1995, ProSieben took over all shares in the cable channel and renamed it Kabel 1.

In 1996, ProSieben received a nationwide broadcasting license and launched its Internet service.

In 1997 and 1998, the advertising windows for Switzerland (1997) and Austria (1998) were launched. The Austrian program is continuously expanded.

In 1999, the news channel N24 was founded and went on air at the beginning of 2000. ProSieben wanted to compete with the then monopolist in the news and business television sector, n-tv, and expand the station family. N24 now has a larger audience share than n-tv. In 1998, ProSieben took over the news agency ddp.

For some years now, ProSieben has been trying to free itself from its feature film station image, and numerous series and infotainment formats have been launched since then.  (Source: Wikipedia)
